A mystery for the centuries, we still don’t know why Stonehenge was built.
What we do know:
- The sarson stones weigh up to 30 tons, and the tallest is about 17 meters tall with 2 meters of it underground. The smaller bluestones, range between 2-5 tons.
- The ditch around Stonehenge and the holes the stones stand in were dug with deer antlers.
- The stones don’t just sit on top of one another, the horizontal lintels are locked in place with ridges and grooves.
- Burial mounds saturate the area nearby.
- It was built between 3000 and 1600 BC and aligns perfectly with the rising and setting sun during both summer and winter solstices. It is still a place of spirituality, celebration, and intrigue today.
