Museum of Miniatures

When I was a much smaller child I once went to the Museum of Miniatures in Los Angeles. MoM for short. I was soooo excited to go, imagining all the microscopic things that could possibly be held in such a place. Would I find a hairbrush the size of an ant? A teeny tiny kettle? A wee car?

It turns out it was a museum with miniature houses and scenery…though they were probably an impressive feat, they were not quite what I was hoping for.

Decades later, my dream of seeing random objects in miniature has come true in Prague!

In the top photo is called Train on a Hair. It is a train on a single strand of hair.

Before you look through the rest of the photos, here are a few things I learned from the museum:

• One of the biggest struggles is finding the right tools to create these miniatures. This alone may take years.
• Tools and materials are often metallic to avoid issues of static.
• Obviously, slight (and natural) movements of the hand are hard enough to control, but another is the pulsing of ones blood. Micro miniaturists work between their heartbeats.
