Before I go on, can we just talk about the gas prices in that picture??? In case you didn’t notice, it is $1.85 a gallon. Once you’ve reattached the bottom jaw to your face from the fact that gas is UNDER TWO DOLLARS over here, we can continue.
Let’s talk about the days after snow. The Italian Store was crowded for lunch today with kids and everyone out enjoying the white fluff while it lasts.
When I think of snow, the aftermath doesn’t really come to mind. Thing is, Monday stops for no one, not even when you get around 2 feet of snow. Actually, that’s a bit of an exaggeration. The government was closed yesterday. And schools were still closed today. But the snow plowers are running non-stop. They’ve a hefty job to do. Actual tally of snow in the Arlington area ranged from 18-26 inches. Most main arteries have nice traction, but lots of side streets still remain unplowed.
I drove in the snow/slush for the first time today, and was rather proud of myself. Some new experiences from this include:
- turning sharply around a snow corner and using it to bump the car into alignment with the plowed road
- not being able to see crossing traffic for the extreme piles of snow
- seeing random items in the street—chairs, stools, mini tables—to “protect” plowed out parking spots
It’s true! Snow is piled up so high on some parts, it’s almost 6 feet tall (I can tell because it’s only a couple inches shorter than Jon). We saw tons of kids out with sleds. I even saw one with a boogie board.
But my favorite experience of the day was seeing my first snow cat.
First snow cat for me too ( picture only), right next to a snow man 😀
Funny cat
Love it
That’s about what gas costs up here in the frozen north now.
Enjoy the snow, because you can leave it behind….unlike others. 🙂
It’s already melting away! The roads are so slushy today.
Seen a snow dog once but your pic was first cat for me too! Adorable!! Incredibly gas prices too! (Maybe our Costco will get there, as they were at $1.99 last week for unleaded.)
Not bad at all! No gas at the Costco here in Pentagon City. Maybe the one in DC will have it.
Haha to the snow cat! Did you ever get to make your own snowman? I heard the snow wasn’t great for making them but that’s easy to solve if you’re determined. You just get a spray bottle and fill it with water and voila! You have snow that’s the right consistency to stick and you can make your snow man nearly immortal for the season if you spray the whole thing down. It’ll harden and possibly freeze once the sun sets.
Another pro tip is to add dye to your water bottle for snow creatures of any color! I once made a blue snowman and it was pretty rockin’!
No! Unfortunately I never got around to it. Next time I’ll have to remember your tips! I’ve always wanted to make snow creatures like from Calvin and Hobbes, possibly an all day endeavor. Will need to try this one day =)
