Costa Rica Beer Factory

Lucia took Luna and me for a walk yesterday to show us a street a few blocks down that has a lot of restaurants in case we wanted to eat out sometime. Calle 33 reminds me of somewhere in Venice or Culver City with its local/artisan (and hipster) food scene.

Le Cook Mar y Tierra (French), Bar Un Lugar (ha-ha, what a trendy local bar. The name reminds me of Mom's bar in WLA. "Dondé estás?" "Un Lugar."), L'anchora (Italian)

The Bar & Cheesecake House font seems strangely reminiscent of Cheesecake Factory. Frida’s Pub had lots of interior decor with the image of its namesake Mexican self-portraitist.

A wall mosaic made of beer caps!

Jon and I decided to take a stroll over here for a midday meal. I showed him the funky decor of Costa Rica Beer Factory and their artsy beer theme with found/reclaimed materials drew us in.

I got the Lomo Cafetero, medium rare (steak atop roasted veggies with a coffee sauce). Jon got the Hamburguesa Parrillera, well done (a burger with pesto/a fancy onion ring served with garlic aioli and thick cut fries). The food was done really well and because we ordered off the lunch specials we got a puréed vegetable soup as an appetizer. crbf-lunch

They played hip alt music (like the Black Keys) and had free wifi (password was “beertime”). But the best part was this cutout (photo enhanced by the reflection of the glass case we used to hold up the phone):IMG_0153

  1. […] CRC for everything— about $8 USD and just a quarter of what we spent yesterday. We had a different ambiance, different drinks (non-alcoholic), and a different quality of food, […]

Wow awesome! Everything looked good! And pretty modern!

    • Yeah, this area is happenin’ – it really does remind me of up and coming foodie areas in LA. It happens to be by a branch of the University, so I wonder if that has to do with anything. There are also restaurants with an emphasis on vegetarian/vegan food too!
