Valparaíso is so full of art, I wasn’t able to fully capture it in just one post.
As we made our way back down the hills from La Sebastiana, we walked through the Museo a Cielo Abierto de Valparaíso, or the Open Air Museum of Valparaíso. Here’s a photo walkthrough of the sights.
The patterned tiles are there to guide you through the various murals in the open air museum. Even without the specific murals of the museum, art is very literally everywhere you turn.Art along the museum path. Not part of the official exhibit, but beautiful and Valparaisian.Art is on every surface possible, from the sides of sky rises, to lamp posts with tile mosaic.Ascensor Espiritu Santo was in the midst of the museum, leading us to more great views, and even more awesome art.The red building where we exited from our ride up the ascensor. It’s directly above a mural that’s part of the open air museum.Intricate mosaics tiled the stools/seating overlooking the view.
A tiled stair pathway down the hill. “Es tan corto el amor y tan largo el olvido” – Pablo Neruda, Poema 20.At the base of the stairs and the end of our tour. The tiles on the right make a mermaid!
I love cities that welcome decorating all sorts of surfaces with art. Sometimes things can be too curated, and it doesn’t feel fun or very inspirational. I definitely want to visit this city and explore and see what art I come upon.
Beatiful!
Making art out of normally unused space! Stunning! Those tile mosaics on the stair risers and the lamp post are my favorites!
I couldn’t believe how many stairs they tiled, and how they would make a picture or design with a series of them!
Amazing!
Aubrey would love all the art =)

With so many official and unofficial works of art, it’s certainly very inspiring!
