The Window Seat on ScotRail (and the less exciting way back)

When I think of Scotland, beaches and water don’t come to mind. But being part of an island (and having many Isles of its own) there’s plenty of water.

We got beautiful views as we made our way to north from Edinburgh.scot-scenery-5

We crossed a long bridge and saw another lovely one on our left side!

scot-beachscot-scene-12scot-scenery-10scot-scenery-8scot-scenery-6 scot-scenery-7scot-scenery-9scot-scenery-11We took a bus from Perth the rest of the way to Aberfeldy. It was a cute community on the bus—many of the riders greeted the bus driver and each other by name!

The route was about an hour and a half with turns down small streets and even to the end of cul de sacs and back. Riders brought their doggies aboard with them no problem.

One train and one bus; getting to Aberfeldy on a Friday was easy enough!

Getting from Aberfeldy to Glasgow on a Sunday was, on the other hand, a bit more difficult. Buses run much less frequently (so we had to head a tad North to Pitlochry instead of straight to Perth). mapSince the bus schedule is an approximation, it was late and we missed our connection in Pitlochry. Then, as all the tickets from Perth directly to Glasgow were booked up, we went through Edinburgh to get there. Of course when you’re traveling by multiple buses, things are a bit slower, so rather than the 3 hrs 16 minutes Google approximates, it took us a little over 6, including the transport from Glasgow city center to our Airbnb flat. Sadly, most of this was in the dark, so we couldn’t really appreciate the lovely scenery this time around. On the bright side, we speak the same language here and could navigate the last-minute ticket situation.

A post on our time in Aberfeldy is long due…stay tuned!

Beautiful scenery and photos. Sorry about your long trip!

    • We were just happy we made it! Thankfully Edinburgh has plenty of transport options and isn’t too far from Glasgow in the scheme of things.
