For Jon’s birthday I made him a chocolate cake with chocolate ganache frosting and a bourbon glaze with a quick a flambé. His favorite drink is bourbon after all, and what guy doesn’t love a good fire?
I didn’t realize how easy chocolate ganache can be, or bourbon glaze for that matter. I found this recipe online, omitting the praline frosting since he doesn’t like pecans. I used the same square pyrex twice in a row, baking each layer separately to make sure they’d be the same size/shape. Lining the pyrex with greased/floured parchment made it easy to remove the layers right out of the oven and onto the rack to cool.
Having layers on a cake makes it so much more fun to make and eat. Got lots of compliments on this one—I highly recommend it.
Beautiful cake! Great tips! (Love ganauche too) Resourceful baker and cook!!
Thanks, it was fun to make – and even more fun to eat! =D
Omg! Looks delish! ???
We’ll have to make one together with the girls! (Bourbon glaze can be for the grown ups) =)
